The storyboard (shown on this page and the next) is very basic. At this point I have concentrated on establishing only the basic actions. Once the music has been roughly completed, I will be able to map out in more detail the specific movements.
However if enough of the basic framework is in place, I often find that the stop-motion process itself produces the best ideas in terms of the subtleties of actions. I will animate each space one by one, which means I will be able to focus on a maximum of two characters at one time, such a state of focus (in my experience) produces strong, subtle elements with a spontaneous quality unmatchable by extensive pre-planning. In this respect, I will leave room for the process to inform the outcome.
