Stop-motion often requires a method of securing and stabilizing the puppets. The method I will use will be the Rig. It is relatively easy to move a puppet across the set whilst keeping it securely attached to the rig, simply by pushing the rig along incrementally in time with the movements.
However, such increments are quite troublesome when it comes to controlling the characters height. I have designed numerous ’height incremental rigs’ with various methods of achieving this height control. The rig on the right achieves it by spinning up and down a screw thread. Each design so far has displayed a weakness in one form or another, but i have high hopes for the one I’m currently building (below).
